What is the British F4 Championship?

The British F4 Championship certified by FIA is the UK’s official Formula 4 series and forms part of the globally recognised FIA single-seater pathway. For young drivers stepping up from karting, F4 is the major first step on the ladder toward a professional racing career.

It features the second-generation Tatuus F4-T421 car, equipped with a 1.4L Abarth engine, FIA-halo safety systems, and Pirelli racing tyres, providing a competitive and safe platform to develop elite driving skills.

Championship Format and Race Weekends

British F4 races are usually held across a 10-round calendar, running alongside the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at iconic UK circuits such as Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Oulton Park and Thruxton. The championship also features an oversees visit to the ever-popular Zandvoort circuit as the drivers face the challenge of Zandvoort’s GP layout and banked corners.

Each race weekend typically comprises of three races, with grid positions determined through a mix of qualifying and reverse-grid formats, ensuring varied racecraft challenges and close competition.

Points and Scoring System

British F4 uses the FIA’s standard points system, awarding points to the top 10 finishers in each race, with additional bonus points for the fastest lap. This scoring system encourages consistency and competitiveness throughout the season, rewarding those who can perform under pressure across multiple race formats.

Why Choose British F4:

British F4 is the ideal championship for young drivers seeking to build a professional motorsport career for several key reasons:

·       FIA Super Licence Points: The series awards Super Licence points to the top seven placed drivers in the championship, essential for progression to Formula 1.

·       Elite Competition: Drivers from the UK and across Europe compete in a tightly matched field, providing a highly competitive learning environment.

·       Exposure: With races broadcast on ITV4 and live streamed worldwide, drivers gain significant media attention and sponsorship visibility.

·       Comprehensive Development: The championship emphasises driver education, including technical briefings, media training, and fitness programmes.
